Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity to attend Cactus Club’s Summer Kick-Off event hosted by Yelp. We were whisked away via party bus the whole night to go on an epic food adventure. We visited four select Cactus Club locations in Vancouver: Robson, English Bay, Broadway+Ash, and Yaletown, and completed a mini scavenger hunt along the way. The night started with appetizers and Bellinis. The spicy chicken would definitely be my appetizer recommendation.
Then, it was off to beautiful English Bay where we had a breathtaking view of the sunset over the water. I was very impressed by the attention to detail shown throughout the whole night; our individual names were even printed on the menu cards!
This round included BC wine pairings for each of the 3 courses. We sipped pinot gris with the ceviche, and then had the truffle prawn ravioli paired with a delicious chardonnay. The butternut squash filling of the ravioli was so creamy and decadent. The last dish included short ribs glazed with hoisin sauce, which is one of my favourite condiments. It was served alongside a glass of cabernet franc. The service was extremely friendly and attentive throughout the night!
For the third location we were invited to check out Cactus Club’s test kitchen (usually not accessible to the general public). This is where chefs test out new recipes, sometimes for years, before it gets released to the restaurants. For dessert we had rosé with key lime pie and caramel chocolate mousse. The treats were decadent without being overly sweet, which I enjoyed. We finished off the night with some cozy late night bites at the Yaletown location, including sliders, tacos and fries. Honestly by the dessert portion I was already too full to finish, but the food throughout the whole night was delicious.
This was an incredible experience and I am so grateful to be a member of the Yelp Elite to get the chance to meet and chat with other friendly food reviewers in the city who are as obsessed with food as I am. Catcus Club did an amazing job showcasing their summer line-up, and have really made a positive impression!
